Keynote Speech 1
Yrjö Engeström(University of Helsinki, Finland)
Yrjö Engeström is Professor of Adult Education and Director of the Center for Research on Activity, Development and Learning (CRADLE) at University of Helsinki. He is Professor Emeritus of Communication at University of California, San Diego. Engeström applies and develops cultural-historical activity theory as a framework for the study of transformations and learning processes in work activities and organizations. He is widely known for his theory of expansive learning and for the interventionist methodology of developmental work research. Engeström’s most recent book is From Teams to Knots: Activity-Theoretical Studies of Collaboration and Learning at Work, published by Cambridge University Press in 2008. Engeström has an honorary professorship at University of Birmingham in UK and an honorary doctorate from University of Oslo. Engeström’s current research focuses on the emergence of co-configuration and other new forms of collaborative work, horizontal expertise and collective concept formation within communities and organizations.

Keynote Speech 2
Christine Kim-Eng Lee(National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore)
Associate Professor Christine Kim-Eng Lee is currently the Head of Curriculum, Teaching and Learning Academic Group, National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Prior to her current appointment, she was Vice-Dean of the School of Arts (1997 - 2000) and Head of Humanities and Social Studies Education Academic Group (2000 - 2006). Christine graduated with a first class honours degree in geography from the University of Singapore and with a doctorate in Curriculum & Teaching from Teachers’ College, Columbia University, New York. She is a recipient of several awards, notably the University of Singapore Gold Medal, the Fulbright Award, the Milestone Award from Teachers’ College and the National Day Public Administration Medal (Bronze). Christine is actively involved in the professional development of teachers in Singapore and introduced Lesson Study to schools through two research and development programmes, “Communities of Practice in Cooperative Learning (CoPCL)” and “Lesson Study as a Teacher-Directed Form of Instructional Improvement”. She is currently the President of the World Association for Lesson Studies. Christine has also pioneered research in cooperative learning as well as ethnic relations in schools in Singapore.
