Greetings from Director
Professor Daichi Nozaki
Director, Center for Barrier-Free Education,
Graduate School of Education, The University of Tokyo
Welcome to the Center for Barrier-Free Education! I joined the committee of this center in 2011, and I have been in charge of this center as director since 2016.
Our center deals with a wide variety of problems resulting from barriers in society. Possibly, the word “barrier” reminds most people of physical barriers. Indeed, before joining this center, I considered the word in the same way. However, the problems our center deals with are not restricted to this kind of conventional problem, but rather they include problems associated with psychological and social barriers. Our center aims to explain what kinds of barriers exist and how and why these barriers arise in our society. I believe this knowledge cultivates students with broad perspectives on these problems and provides clues to how we should overcome the barriers.
