Greetings from Director
Professor Yoshihiro Kokuni
Director, Center for Barrier-Free Education,
Graduate School of Education, The University of Tokyo
I have served as the Director of the Center from FY2018. Under the circumstance that the creation of an inclusive society becomes an urgent issueｗith the ratification of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, I feel a great responsibility for taking office as Director.
In recent years, we gathered a record of the struggle against mandatory protection school for 1979, and we are listening to those concerned at that time. This will be published from the University of Tokyo Press as a result of seminar-based research.
In addition, I have been involved as a trainer and a school council member for the past 6 years at Osaka City Ozora elementary school, which is known as a public elementary school that realizes full inclusion. In 2017, we have concluded a research education exchange agreement with this center with Ozora elementary school.
In the past 10 years, the proportion of students enrolled in special support education schools has increased by 1.3 times, special support classes by 2.1 times, and graduate guidance by 2.3 times (as of 2016). In the situation that there is concern that schools' inclusive ability to social minorities is declining, it is necessary to set up the structure of the problem behind, at the same time, to make a school's vision and educational method that enables full inclusion. And It is an important mission of this Center to clarify them. We appreciate your continued support.
